Unavoidable Search Engine Issues
Saturday, July 19, 2008

The Robots line in the cloaking page is there specifically to prevent Search Engines such as Google from trying to index the page. Google hates meta refresh pages because it thinks that they are a spamming technique. It’s safer for them to keep search engine robots out of the page, and since the page will have no content, there’s no point in it being indexed anyway.
You must not be tempted to have search engines index the cloaking page in the hope that your affiliate URL page will be listed highly because the penalty that is imposed by some search engines if you are caught is not worth the risk. You could loose everything this way.
You can play it even safer by having all of these special pages in one directory and then introducing a robots exclusion statement for that directory in your robots.txt file. I would highly recommend that you begin by cloaking your affiliate links. You will definitely experienced higher conversions and therefore commission revenue when you begin implementing cloaking strategies. There’s nothing unethical about it; and like many other site owners, you have to work hard on our site and have poured thousands of hours into it over the years there’s nothing wrong with receiving a few bucks for this effort
